Waste ban
Definition
A state rule barring specific materials from landfill or incinerator disposal. Enforced at the facility, so a banned item can get an entire load rejected.

Massachusetts operates the broadest list, covering mattresses and textiles since November 2022 alongside concrete, wood, metal and CRTs. This is why "can I throw a mattress away" has no national answer.
