Junk removal

Direct answer

A crew arrives, carries your material out, and charges for the volume it occupies in their truck. You pay more per cubic yard than a container and nothing for your own time. Above roughly 15 cubic yards a roll-off container is cheaper per yard than this and stays on site while you work.

When this beats a roll-off container

  • Small volumes, roughly under 6 to 8 cubic yards
  • Anything above the ground floor, or down basement stairs
  • No driveway, or a placement that would need a permit you do not want to pull
  • One or two heavy items — a piano, a hot tub, a safe

When it does not

Once your volume passes roughly 15 cubic yards, a container is cheaper per yard than any of these and it stays on your driveway while you work. None of these options takes hazardous material either, so paint, fuel, batteries and refrigerant appliances are a separate errand regardless of which you choose.
