## The thing the rest of this industry will not tell you

Search for a dumpster in your city and almost everything on the first page is a broker. A broker owns no trucks. It takes your order, subcontracts the local hauler who was going to deliver the container anyway, and keeps the difference — and you have no way of knowing that the company you called is not the company arriving.

The second thing: the "average dumpster cost by state" content that ranks for price searches is a closed loop of aggregators citing each other. Prices vary by region because landfill tipping fees vary by region, and almost nobody publishes that. We do.

| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 10 yd³ | 11–14 ft × 7.5–8 ft × 3–4 ft | 1–2 t | ~4 | 40–60 | 83–112 ft² |

Dimensions are ranges because a roll-off is sold by internal volume and manufacturers build to different external sizes. Weight allowances are hauler terms, not properties of the container.

## Start where your question is
- ### What can go in a dumpster Every material, with the states that ban it. "Can I throw a mattress away" has a different correct answer depending on where you live.
- ### What it really costs The six things that move a quote, in the order they move it — starting with the gate rate your hauler pays.
- ### Permits Driveway versus street, and why we publish a department phone number instead of a fee we could not verify.
- ### Calculators Debris weight, total cost with overage, cubic yards, bags to yards, and whether junk removal beats a container.
- ### By project Roof tear-off, kitchen gut, estate cleanout, flooded basement — what size, what it weighs, what you cannot put in it.
- ### Every question 179 sourced answers, grouped by what you are trying to decide.

## What we will not publish

Accuracy here is not a style preference. A wrong permit claim gets a reader fined, a wrong prohibited-items list gets them a contamination charge, and a wrong weight limit turns a $400 rental into a $900 bill. So where we could not trace a number to the body that sets it, we publish the gap instead of the number.
- Wisconsin landfill environmental fees per ton by waste category — wisconsin.gov is unreachable from the build environment, so the fee schedule could not be read at the source. Publishing the numbers second-hand would put this site in the same citation loop it exists to break.
- EREF 2023 regional tipping fees for the Midwest, Mountains/Plains, South Central and Southeast — Only the Northeast and Pacific regional averages appear in public reporting of the EREF 2023 survey. The remaining four regional figures circulating online trace back to paraphrases of the paid report, not to EREF.
- Per-city dumpster permit fees — Every per-city fee figure we could find traces to a commercial aggregator rather than to the city. A wrong fee is worse than no fee.

## We do not rent dumpsters, broker orders, or sell leads.

That is what makes the rest of this site worth reading. Every regulatory claim names the agency that set the rule, and where a number could not be traced we publish the gap instead.
